KB1 - Enter Output State Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)
NOTE: Do not use STAR tester for this step, use a Analog Volt/Ohm Meter (VOM)/Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM)
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 565 indicates Canister Purge (CANP) valve failure has been detected.
Possible causes:
- Damaged CANP valve.
- Damaged vacuum hose to CANP valve from manifold.
- Open in VPWR harness circuit.
- Open in solenoid control signal circuit.
- Short to power in solenoid control signal circuit.
- Short to ground in solenoid control signal circuit.
- Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Key "OFF".
- Disconnect electrical connector on the speed control servo, if equipped.
- VOM/DVOM on 20 volt scale.
- Connect VOM/DVOM negative test lead to STO circuit at the Data Link Connector (DLC) and positive test lead to B+.
- Jumper STI circuit to SIG RTN at the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Perform Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self-Test until the completion of the Continuous Memory DTC output. Quick Test Appendix (Detailed Testing Instructions)
- VOM/DVOM will indicate less than 1.0 volt when test is completed.
- Depress and release the throttle.
- Does the voltage increase?
Yes -- Remain in Output State test mode. Go to KB2. KB2 - Check CANP Valve Electrical Operation
No -- Depress throttle to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and release. If Self Test Output (STO) voltage does not go high then leave equipment hooked up and perform pinpoint test step QC1. QC1 - Check For Codes 23, 53, 63, 121, 122 or 123
