Expansion Block/Orifice Tube: Service and Repair
A/C EVAPORATOR CORE ORIFICE REPLACEMENT KIT INSTALLATION1. Recover the A/C refrigerant system. Observe all safety precautions.
2. Remove the condenser to evaporator tube from the vehicle.
Orifice Tube Location:
3. Locate the A/C evaporator core orifice by three indentations or a circular recess in the metal portion of the condenser to evaporator tube.
4. Note the angular position of the ends of the condenser to evaporator tube so that it can be reassembled in the correct position.
5. Cut a 63.5 mm (2.5 inch) section from the condenser to evaporator tube at the A/C evaporator core orifice location. Do not out closer than 25.4 mm (1 inch) from the start of a bend in the tube.
6. Remove the contaminants from the two pieces of the condenser to evaporator tube.
NOTE: The inlet half of the condenser to evaporator tube will be positioned against the A/C evaporator core orifice tabs when correctly assembled.
7. Lubricate the fitting with clean refrigerant oil and assemble the orifice tube kit (with the A/C evaporator core orifice installed) to the condenser to evaporator tube. Make sure the flow direction arrow is pointing toward the evaporator end of the condenser to evaporator tube, and the taper of each compressor ring is toward the compression nut.
Orifice Tube Kit Installed:
8. While holding the hex of the tube in a vise, tighten each compression nut to 88-95 Nm (65-70 ft lb) with a crow foot wrench.
9. Assemble the condenser to evaporator tube to the vehicle using new green 0-ring seals lubricated with clean refrigerant oil. Use only the specified green 0-ring seals at the spring lock coupling.
10. Leak-test, evacuate, and charge the system.
11. Check the system for proper operation.
