Clearing Trouble Codes
NOTE: Ford does not provide a procedure to erase codes with a scan tool. The following procedure is all that Ford provides.
1. The original error codes in the anti-lock brake control module from the assembly plant will erase automatically if everything is in working order once the vehicle is driven about 40 km/h (25 mph).
NOTE: If self-diagnostic pinpoint test steps continually lead to reverify symptom, go to anti-lock quick check test. ABS Module Harness Connector Electrical Quick Check Sheet
2. All error codes must be output, all malfunctions corrected (anti-lock brake indicator off), and vehicle driven about 40 km/h (25 mph) before the memory will clear.
3. The anti-lock brake control module will erase all stored codes if it counts 250 consecutive run cycles without recognizing a malfunction.
NOTE: Each time the engine is started, the anti-lock brake control module will count 2 run cycles.
