Passenger's Side
NOTE: If the passenger side air bag module did not deploy in a collision, it may not have been needed. Complete all diagnostics before replacing the passenger side air bag module.Removal
WARNING: The electrical circuit necessary for system deployment is powered directly from the battery. To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the positive battery cable must be disconnected prior to servicing or replacing any system components.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect positive battery cable and wait one minute for backup power supply energy to be depleted.
3. Remove RH instrument panel moulding.
4. On Crown Victoria, remove RH instrument cluster finish panel retaining screws and remove instrument panel. On Grand Marquis, remove RH A/C register retaining screws and remove A/C register.
5. On Grand Marquis, remove cluster finish panel retaining screws and remove instrument panel.
6. Open glove compartment, press sides inward and lower glove compartment to floor.
Passenger Air Bag Module:
7. Through glove compartment opening, remove two front passenger air bag module retaining screws.
WARNING: Place air bag module on bench with trim cover facing UP.
8. Remove two rear passenger air bag module retaining screws, disconnect electrical connector and remove passenger side air bag module.
Installation
1. Connect electrical connector to passenger side air bag module and position passenger side air bag module in screw.
2. Install two rear passenger air bag module retaining screws. Tighten to 2.7-3.7 N-m (24-33 lb-in).
3. Install two front passenger air bag module retaining screws. Tighten to 7.6-10.4 N-m (67-92 lb-in).
4. Return glove compartment to correct position.
5. Install instrument cluster finish panel with seven retaining screws (Crown Victoria) or eight screws (Grand Marquis). Tighten screws to 2-2.9 N-m (18-26 lb-in).
6. On Grand Marquis, install RH A/C register and tighten retaining screws to 2-2.9 N-m (18-26 lb-in).
7. Install RH instrument panel moulding.
8. Reconnect positive battery cable.
9. Reconnect battery ground cable.
10. Prove out air bag system.
