Instrument Panel - Replacement
Removal and Installation1. Position wheels straight ahead.
2. Disconnect positive battery cable.
3. Remove RH and LH mouldings from instrument panel by pulling away from instrument panel and snapping out of retainers.
4. Remove RH and LH lower instrument panel moulding from instrument panel.
NOTE: During installation of LH lower instrument panel moulding install the front of the LH lower instrument panel moulding into the retainer clip.
5. Remove five bolts retaining lower instrument panel steering column cover and remove instrument panel steering column cover.
6. Remove two bolts and instrument panel reinforcement from under steering column tube.
7. Pull up to unsnap instrument panel upper finish panel and remove.
8. Remove ignition lock cylinder.
9. Remove tilt lever.
10. Remove upper and lower steering column shrouds.
11. Disconnect wiring from steering column tube switches and PRNDL cable from steering column tube.
12. Cover front seat to protect from damage. Remove four nuts retaining steering column tube to instrument panel and steering column tube on front seat.
13. Install ignition switch lock cylinder to ensure that steering column tube shaft does not turn, to prevent air bag clockspring misalignment and damage.
14. Open glove compartment door and press tabs inward and lower glove compartment toward floor.
15. Through LH side of glove compartment opening remove two bolts retaining instrument panel to dash panel brace.
16. Remove RH and LH cowl trim panels.
17. Disconnect wires of main wiring from engine compartment on both RH and LH sides. Disengage rubber grommets from dash panel then feed main wiring through hole in dash panel into passenger compartment.
18. Disconnect wires from instrument panel at RH and LH cowl sides.
19. Remove two lower bolts retaining instrument panel to A-pillar.
20. Using steering columntube and glove compartment openings and by reaching under instrument panel, disconnect all electrical connections, vacuum hoses, A/C side window demister and hose, heater A/C vacuum lines and radio antenna lead in cable.
21. Close glove compartment door, support instrument panel and remove five screws retaining top of instrument panel to cowl top and disconnect any remaining wires. Remove instrument panel from vehicle.
22. If instrument panel is being replaced, transfer all parts to the new instrument panel.
23. To install, reverse Removal procedure.
24. Check air bag indicator operation.
