Generic Scan Tool
NOTE: A string of characters must be entered into the generic scan tool to access all powertrain continuous DTC's. The generic keystroke entry for this specific function is provided below. also, refer to the scan tool manufacturer's instructions for additional information.- Start engine, if possible, and idle until it is at normal operating temperature.
- Key Off.
- Perform visual inspection and test preparation.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Turn ignition key to the "ON" position.
- Verify tool is connected and communicating properly by entering the On-Board Diagnostics II (OBD II) System Readiness Test. On-Board System Readiness Test
NOTE: All scan tools are required to automatically enter this test once communication is established between the tool and vehicle PCM.
- Enter the following string to initiate KOEO Self-Test.
- Enter the following strings separately and in the order shown.
- All string ID numbers (first field) must match the order shown.

NOTE: If unable to activate KOEO Self-Test or Tool Communication Error received, GO to Pinpoint Test Step QA1. QA1 - Verify Self-Test Activation Method Used
- After the completion of KOEO Self Test, retrieve and record any KOEO DTCs.
- If DTC P1000 is present, ignore it at this time.
- Are any KOEO DTCs (except P1OOO) present?
YES -- Key Off. GO to Powertrain DTC Charts for Pinpoint Test direction (begin diagnosis with first DTC output). [1][2]Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts
NO -- GO to Diagnostic Subroutine 13.0 DSR13 - Were Any Continuous Memory DTCs Received In DSR11?
