General Testing Description
PURPOSEThe Quick Test checks integrity and function of the Electronic Engine Control-V (EEC-V) Powertrain Control system and outputs the test results upon demand. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) stores the self test program in its permanent memory. The self test will verify various sensor and actuator connections and proper operation.
The Quick test is divided into three specialized tests:
- Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self Test
- Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self Test
- Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Access
NOTE: Retrieving Continuous DTC's must be performed separately from the KOEO Quick Test.
Retrieving DTC's can be performed by any scan tool meeting On-Board Diagnostics (OBD II) requirements.
The self test is not a conclusive test by itself, but is used as a part of the functional Quick Test diagnosis procedure. The Quick Test should be performed at the end of most Pinpoint Tests for verification of repair and to ensure no other faults were incurred while servicing a previous fault.
Brake ON/OFF Test
Vehicles equipped with Brake On/Off (BOO) input, the brake pedal must be applied and released after the KOER self test is initiated. This tests the ability of the EEC-V system to detect a change of state in the stoplamp switch.
Transmission Control Switch Test
Vehicles equipped with a Transmission Control Switch (TCS), the switch must be cycled after the KOER self test is initiated. This tests the ability of the EEC-V system to detect a change of state in the TCS.
