Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove bolt retaining oil level indicator tube on left exhaust manifold.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect both heated oxygen sensors.
4. Remove EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube line nut from right exhaust manifold and remove EGR valve.
5. Disconnect three-way catalytic converter from exhaust manifolds.

Securing Catalytic Converter To Crossmember:

6. Lower catalytic converter and wire to crossmember as shown.
7. On left exhaust manifold, disconnect steering shaft and position clear of area. Remove eight bolts retaining exhaust manifold.
8. On right exhaust manifold, remove eight bolts retaining exhaust manifold to cylinder head, then remove manifold.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

Exhaust Manifold Tightening Sequence:

a. Torque exhaust manifold retaining nuts in sequence to 15-22 ft lb.
b. Loosen line nut at EGR valve prior to installing assembly into vehicle. This will allow enough movement to align EGR valve retaining bolts.
c. Ensure exhaust system clears No. 3 crossmember. Adjust as necessary.
