Throttle Valve Pressure
THROTTLE VALVE PRESSURE ADJUSTNOTE: This procedure requires the use of Throttle Valve (TV) Pressure Gauge Set (0-60 psi) tool No. T86L-70002-A or equivalent. The results of the adjustment procedure depends on the accuracy of the pressure gauge. The pressure gauge should have eight feet of flexible hose to make the gauge accessible while operating the engine.
1. Attach TV Pressure Gauge Set (0-60 psi) tool No. T86L-70002-A or equivalent to the TV port on the transmission.
2. Remove the air cleaner cover and inlet tube from the throttle body inlet to obtain access to the throttle lever.
Gauge Tool Installation:
3. Insert tapered end of the tool between the crimped slug on the end of cable and plastic notched rod. Push in Cable TV Control Pressure Gauge tool No. T86L-70332-A or equivalent forcing the crimped slug away from the plastic rod. Ensure gauge block is pushed in as far as it will go as shown in.
4. Operate engine until normal operating temperature is reached. The transmission fluid temperature should be approximately 100-150° F.
NOTE: Do not perform pressure check if transmission fluid is cold or too hot to touch.
5. Set parking brake, then place shift selector in Neutral. With gauge tool in place and engine idling in Neutral, TV pressure should be between 30-40 psi.
NOTE: Do not check or set TV pressure in Park.
6. If pressure reading is as specified, remove gauge tool No. T86L-70332-A or equivalent, allowing cable to return to its normal idle position. With the engine still idling in Neutral, TV pressure reading must be at or near zero (less than 5 psi).
7. If TV pressure is not as specified in either Steps 5 or 6, remove gauge tool. Check and replace damaged components as necessary. Adjust cable.
8. Repeat Steps 3 through 6 to recheck TV pressure.
9. If TV pressure is still not as specified, modify adjustment as follows:
a. Mark or measure location of plastic block on notched rod.
b. Push out locking tab on plastic block.
Throttle Body Bracket Location:
c. Using mark or measurement as reference, move plastic block toward throttle body mounting bracket to raise TV pressure or away from bracket to lower TV pressure as shown in the Throttle Body Bracket Location image.
NOTE: One notch movement equals 2 psi.
d. Push in white locking tab to lock block in position.
Grooved Push Pin Installation:
e. Insert grooved pin into grommet as shown in the Grooved Push Pin Installation image.
10. Repeat Steps 3 through 6 to recheck TV pressure.
11. Repeat Step 9, if necessary. TV pressure should be set as close as possible to 33 psi in Neutral with gauge tool installed. Since the TV pressure goes up approximately 2 psi when the shift lever is moved from neutral to a forward gear, this will result in a TV pressure near a desired setting of 35 psi.
