Stall Speed Test
STALL SPEED TESTNOTE: The stall speed test will determine if there is a malfunction with the torque converter clutch, forward clutch, reverse clutch, planetary clutch, or engine performance. The engine coolant and transmission fluid must be at proper levels and at operating temperature prior to performing the stall test.
CAUTION: If at any time the RPM exceeds the limit given in the chart, release the accelerator immediately to avoid clutch or band damage.
1. Connect tachometer to engine.
2. Find specified RPM and mark tachometer with grease pencil.
3. In 1st, 2nd, Drive, and Reverse press accelerator pedal to floor and hold for no more than 5 seconds, just long enough to reach Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
Stall Speed Chart:
4. Note results and shift to Neutral. Compare results with specifications shown in the Stall Speed Chart.
5. Allow engine to cool for 15 seconds at idle before next test.
