Shift Point Road Tests

ROAD TEST

NOTE: This test verifies that the shift control system is operating properly.

1. Bring engine and transmission up to normal operating temperature.
2. Operate vehicle with transmission range selector lever in position D.

3. Apply minimum throttle and observe speeds at which upshift occurs and torque converter engages. Refer to the Shift Speed Charts.
4. With vehicle in overdrive (4th gear), press transmission control switch. Transmission should downshift to 3rd gear. Remove foot from accelerator pedal; engine braking should occur.
5. Depress accelerator pedal to floor, Wide Open Throttle (WOT). Transmission should shift from third to second gear, or third to first depending on vehicle speed. Torque converter clutch should disengage then reapply.
6. With vehicle in overdrive (above 50 mph) and less than 1/2 throttle, move gear selector lever from overdrive to Manual 2 position and remove foot from accelerator pedal. Transmission should immediately downshift to 2nd gear.
7. With gear selector lever in Manual 2, shift to Manual 1 and release accelerator pedal. Transmission should downshift to 1st gear at speeds below 30-35 mph.
