Transmission Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

The Transmission Speed Sensor (TSS), located within the transaxle oil pan, produces an AC voltage that is proportional to the speed of the transaxle's forward/reverse drum. Since this drum is mechanically connected to the torque converter, the sensor is also measuring turbine speed. The Powertrain control Module (PCM) uses this input to determine upshift and downshift points.
