Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Verify fuel rail assembly is depressurized by removing fuel tank cap and releasing pressure from fuel system at pressure relief valve on fuel rail assembly.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable and secure it out of the way.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.
3. Remove vacuum line at pressure regulator.
4. Remove three retaining screws from regulator housing
5. Remove pressure regulator assembly, gasket and O-ring. Discard gasket and inspect O-ring for signs of cracks or deterioration.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.
1. Lubricate fuel pressure regulator O-ring with engine oil.
NOTE: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.
2. Ensure gasket surfaces of fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail assemblies are clean.
3. Install O-ring and new gasket on regulator.
4. Install fuel pressure regulator on fuel rail assembly. Tighten the three retaining screws to 4 Nm (34 in lb).
5. Install vacuum line to regulator.
6. Connect battery ground cable.
7. Replace fuel cap.
8. Turn ignition switch from ON/OFF position several times without starting engine and check for fuel leaks.
