With Malfunction Indicator Lamp
NOTE: Correct results of the Quick Tests are dependent on the proper operation of related non-EEC components. It may be necessary to disconnect or disassemble harness connector assemblies to perform some of the inspections. Pin locations should be noted prior to disassembly.1. Perform the following safety precautions to begin and perform vehicle tests:
- Turn the ignition switch OFF
- Apply parking brake
- Place gear select lever into Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T)
- Block drive wheels
- Turn OFF all electrical loads (radio, lights, A/C-heater blower fans, etc).
2. Inspect the following for damage, leaks, cracks, blockage and proper routing:
- Air induction system
- Engine vacuum hoses
3. Inspect the following for proper connections, bent or broken pins, corrosion, loose wires and proper routing:
- Electronic Engine Control (EEC) system wiring harness
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM), sensors and actuators
4. Check:
- Engine coolant for proper level
- Engine oil level and quality
- Transmission fluid level and quality
- Battery voltage and charging system.
5. Make all necessary repairs prior to continuing with test preparation.
NOTE: If Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) flashes continuously prior to equipment hookup, see STI - Self Test Input Test. STI - Self Test Input
6. Jumper PCM STI to engine ground.
7. See Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self Test. Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self Test
