Reverse Clutch
DISASSEMBLEExploded View Of Clutch Assembly:
1. Refer to the Exploded View Of Clutch Assembly image for disassembling procedure.
ASSEMBLE
1. Apply small amount of automatic transaxle fluid to inner and outer faces of seal, then install on reverse piston. Face outer seal lip toward the inside by gently rolling it down around the circumference for easier installation.
2. Attach seal protector tool No. T88C-7700-GH or equivalent, to reverse piston.
3. Install reverse piston into reverse and forward drum by pushing evenly around circumference, then remove seal protector.
4. Install piston return spring with tabs facing away from reverse piston.
Piston Return Spring And Stopper Installation:
5. Install return spring stopper with step facing upwards.
6. Install snap ring halfway down reverse and forward drum.
7. Compress spring and retainer using clutch spring compressor tool No. T88C-77000-AH and plate from T87C-77000-B or equivalents.
8. Install snap ring with suitable screwdriver, then remove spring compressor.
9. Install dished plate with dished side facing piston.
10. Install retaining plate with step facing downward, then install snap ring.
11. Measure clearance of snap ring and pressure plate. Clearance should be 0.059-0.071 inch. If clearance is not as specified, proceed as follows:
Reverse Clutch Pressure Plate Thickness Chart, (1992):
a. On 1992 models, select pressure plate which will bring clearance to specification.
Reverse Clutch Snap Ring Thickness Chart, (1993-1996):
b. On 1993-96 models, select snap ring which will bring clearance to specification.
