Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disarm airbag system.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Place shift indicator in NEUTRAL position.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly.

5. Remove shift cable attaching nut, then disconnect cable.
6. Remove neutral switch harness from metal retainer, then separate harness from sheathing.
7. Disconnect switch electrical connectors.
8. Remove switch attaching bolts, then remove switch.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure switch and shaft are in NEUTRAL position.
b. Loosely install switch attaching bolts, then remove cover screw and align internal hole with cover screw hole.
c. Ensure alignment by inserting a 0.079 inch pin through opening.
d. Torque switch attaching screws to 69-95 in lb.
e. Remove alignment pin, then torque cover screw to 3-6 in lb.
f. Torque shift cable attaching nut to 33-47 ft lb.
g. Reactivate airbag system.
