Neutral Safety Switch: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Manual Lever Position (MLP) Switch houses the START circuits for the ignition system to allow the vehicle to be started in PARK or NEUTRAL.

The backup lamp circuits, which are closed in reverse, are also contained in this switch.

It is also used by the transmission control module to determine transmission gear selection.
