Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor measures inlet air temperature and provides an input signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) . The signal is used by the PCM in calculations for air/fuel ratio, fuel pressure, purge control, and idle speed.

OPERATION
Sensor is a device whose resistance changes with temperature. The PCM interprets these variations as temperature fluctuations.
