Fuel Pressure Check Valve: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump:

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Fuel Pressure Check Valve, is to maintain pressure in the fuel system after the vehicle is shut down. This pressure retention helps prevent hot starting problems.

OPERATION

The fuel pump is mounted to the fuel tank sending unit housing inside the fuel tank. The pump assembly includes a Fuel Pressure Check Valve, it is located at the fuel pump outlet, and is part of the Fuel Pump. When fuel is pressurized by the fuel pump and sent to the fuel lines it is allowed to flow only one way through the check valve. This maintains pressure in the system after the vehicle is shut down. A pressure relief valve is also provided to regulate the maximum fuel pump outlet pressure.

NOTE: The Fuel Pressure Check Valve is part of the Fuel Pump and is not serviced separately.
