Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
Canister Purge (CANP) Solenoid:
PURPOSE
The canister purge solenoid controls the flow of fuel vapors leaving the fuel vapor canister.
OPERATION
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) actuates the fuel vapor canister purge regulator valve based on readings it receives from various sensors.
The canister purge solenoid is normally closed. When the engine is shut off, vapors from the fuel tank flow into the fuel vapor canister. After the engine is started, the solenoid opens, purging the vapors into the intake manifold.
