Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Description and Operation

Check Engine (Malfunction Indicator) Light:

The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is mounted in the instrument cluster. The light will illuminate when the system has detected a fault and is operating in Limited Operating Strategy (LOS). It will stay ON as long as there is a fault is present. MIL can also be used to retrieve fault codes when the self test mode is entered.
