Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair





1. Pump brake pedal several times to exhaust any vacuum in booster. Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder, then cap brake lines and master cylinder ports to prevent contamination from entering system.
2. Remove vacuum valve from booster, then disconnect pressure warning switch connector.
3. Remove two nut and washer assemblies retaining master cylinder to brake booster.
4. Remove master cylinder from brake booster. It may be necessary to insert a small pry bar between the booster and the master cylinder to free the master cylinder.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque master cylinder retaining nuts to 7-12 ft lb.
b. Check and if necessary, adjust stoplamp switch.
