Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation
OPERATIONWith the Ignition Switch in "RUN", voltage is present at the coils and contacts of both relays in the Moonroof Relay Pack.
Open/Close
With the Moonroof Open/Close Switch in the "OPEN" position, the coil of relay #1 is grounded and the coil is energized. The contacts close and current flows through the MOONROOF Fuse, relay #1's contacts (energized), the Power Moonroof Motor, and relay #2's contacts (deenergized to ground. The Moonroof Motor runs to open the glass roof panel.
As soon as the panel begins to open, Limit Switch #2 in the Moonroof Drive Assembly Switch changes position. This disables the panel tilt up circuit to prevent the panel from being tilted up while it is retracted.
With the Moonroof Open/Close Switch in the "CLOSE" position, the coil of relay #2 is grounded and the coil is energized. The contacts close and current flows through the MOONROOF Fuse, relay #2's contacts (energized), the Power Moonroof Motor, and relay #1's contacts (deenergized) to ground. The Moonroof Motor runs to closes the glass roof panel.
As soon as the panel is completely closed. Limit Switch #2 in the Moonroof Drive Assembly changes position. The panel tilt up circuit is now enabled.
Tilt Up/Down
With the Moonroof Tilt Up/Tilt Down Switch in the "TILT UP" position (and Limit Switch #2 in the "Panel Fully Closed" position), the coil or relay #2 is grounded and the coil is energized. The contacts close and current flows through the MOONROOF Fuse, relay #2's contacts (energized), the Power Moonroof Motor, and relay #1's contacts (deenergized) to ground. The Moonroof Motor runs to tilt the rear edge of the glass roof panel upward.
As soon as the panel begins to tilt, Limit Switch #1 in the Moonroof Drive Assembly changes position.
With the Moonroof Tilt Up/Tilt Down Switch in the "TILT DOWN" position (and Limit Switch #1 in the "PANEL TILTED UP" position), the coil of relay #1 is grounded and the coil is energized. The contacts close and current flows through the MOONROOF Fuse, relay #1's contacts (energized), the Power Moonroof Motor, and relay #2's contacts (deenergized) to ground. The Moonroof Motor runs to tilt the rear edge of the glass roof panel downward.
As soon as the panel is closed. Limit Switch #1 in the Moonroof Drive Assembly changes positions.
