Internal Shift Linkage

REMOVAL

Internal Shift Linkage:






1. Remove shift lever shaft from bore, then the back-up lamp switch.

CAUTION: Use caution when removing shift lever shaft, as reverse inhibitor plunger is spring loaded and may be ejected from its bore when shaft is removed.

2. Using screwdriver, remove reverse relay lever retaining C-clip, then the reverse relay lever.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove pivot pin.

3. Remove control selector plate from case.
4. Position shift shaft into center detent position, then drive spring pin through selector plate arm assembly and through input shift shaft into recess in clutch housing case.
5. Remove shift shaft boot, then use drill to rotate input shift shaft 90°.
6. Depress detent plunger from shaft detent notches inside housing and pull input shaft outward.

7. Remove input shift shaft selector plate arm assembly and spring pin.
8. Using a suitable magnet, remove input shift shaft detent plunger and spring.
9. Remove transmission input shift shaft oil seal assembly using sector shaft seal tool No. T77F-7288-A and impact slide hammer tool No. 750T-1OO-A, or equivalents.

INSTALLATION
1. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use caution not to damage oil seal when installing input shift shaft. Lubricate seal lip of new oil seal prior to shaft installation.
b. Tighten selector plate attaching bolts to specifications.
c. Apply sealant to reverse relay lever pivot pin threads before installing.
d. Apply sealant to back-up lamp switch threads and tighten switch to specifications.
e. With oil relief flat first, depress reverse inhibitor plunger through case pedestal using drift. Ensure shaft has enough clearance so it will not interfere with shift lever shaft.
