Clutch Switch: Description and Operation
PURPOSEThe Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) switch provides an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), allowing it to compensate for changes in engine load resulting from clutch operation. The PCM adjusts the idle speed and air/fuel ratio according to input from the CPP switch.
OPERATION
A 5.0 volt reference signal is applied to the CPP from the PCM. The CPP switch is open with the clutch pedal up and closed when down. When the switch is closed it applies ground, through the signal return circuit, to the CPP circuit, informing the PCM that the clutch pedal is depressed.
RELATED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
DTC 528 - CPP circuit failure, during Key On Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test or while cranking the PCM sensed a high voltage (clutch pedal not depressed) on the CPP circuit.
