Passive Restraints

The Passive Restraint System, which operates electrically, restrains the driver and front seat passenger in the vehicle through the use of the shoulder belt, the manual lap belt and knee bolsters.

THE LAP SAFETY BELT IS TO BE MANUALLY BUCKLED BY THE DRIVER/PASSENGER AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE WORN WITH THE SHOULDER BELT. BE SURE THE LAP BELT IS ON YOUR HIPS AS LOW AS POSSIBLE.

If driver's lap belt is fastened when the ignition key is turned to ON, the safety belt indicator lamp in instrument cluster will not illuminate. If warning chime sounds after six seconds or the warning indicator lamp remains on after 60 seconds, then either a stalled shoulder belt or emergency release lever is not fully down.

If driver's lap belt is not fastened when the ignition key is turned to ON, the safety belt warning chime will sound approximately six seconds and the safety belt warning indicator lamp in instrument cluster will illuminate steadily for approximately 60 seconds as a reminder to fasten the lap belt. If the lap belt is fastened while this indicator lamp is illuminated, the indicator lamp will be extinguished immediately (provided no automatic shoulder belt warning conditions are present).

With the ignition key turned to the ON position and one or both front seat shoulder belt emergency release levers are not in the full down position, the warning chime and the safety belt warning indicator lamps in the instrument cluster will both come on for six seconds. The safety belt warning indicator lamp in the console will flash continually until both levers are pushed fully down. If, after one minute, both of the emergency shoulder belt release levers are still not in the full down position, the warning chime and the safety belt warning indicator will both come on again and stay on until both levers are pushed fully down.

If the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster stays on (flashing), even when both front seat shoulder belt emergency release levers are in the full down position, the shoulder belt may not have reached its locked position at the B-pillar.

The shoulder belt will automatically adjust itself to allow comfort and freedom of movement by the occupant. It will lock tight only on hard braking, hard cornering or impacts of approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) or more.

When the ignition is in any position and the door is opened, the shoulder belt will move forward to the A-pillar. This will allow ample room for either the driver or passenger to exit the vehicle.

WARNING: USE THE SHOULDER BELT ON THE OUTSIDE SHOULDER ONLY. NEVER WEAR THE SHOULDER BELT UNDER THE ARM. NEVER SWING IT AROUND YOUR NECK OVER THE INSIDE SHOULDER. NEVER USE A SINGLE BELT FOR MORE THAN ONE PERSON. BE SURE THE LAP PORTION OF THE BELT IS FITTED SNUGLY AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE AROUND THE HIPS, NOT ON THE WAIST. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PRECAUTIONS COULD INCREASE THE CHANCE AND/OR SEVERITY OF INJURY IN A COLLISION.

CAUTION: Do not use the belt as an assist handle when entering or exiting the vehicle. The door should not be opened while the vehicle is in motion.

NOTE: If door is ajar the shoulder belt will remain in the forward position at the A-pillar. The door ajar indicator located in the instrument panel will illuminate until the door is fully closed.

WARNING: THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN UNLESS ALL DOORS ARE FULLY CLOSED AND THE SHOULDER BELTS ARE IN THE LOCKED POSITION ON THE B-PILLAR.

The vehicle passive restraint system is protected with a 20 gauge fuse link (Dk Blue). The fuse link is located on the RH side of the vehicle rear the starter motor relay.

Transport motors at stall can draw 16 to 18 amps.
