EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEMINSPECTION/TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS
EMISSIONS RECALL 93E32
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
1993 Tempo/Topaz vehicles with 3.0L Engines built at the Oakville, Canada Assembly Plant February 22, 1993 through February 25, 1993.
Instructions
1. Turn the steering wheel to the full left turn position.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
3. Remove the left front wheel and tire assembly.
4. Reach through tie rod opening in the left front fender apron and determine if the rubber fuel vapor hose (9C015) is connected to the steel fuel vapor tube (9A228) from the fuel tank (Figure 1).
a. If connected, go to Step 5.
b. If not connected, connect the rubber vapor hose (9C015) to the steel vapor tube (9A228) from the fuel tank. Install the wheel and tire assembly and tighten the wheel lugs nuts to 115-142 N-m (85-105 lb.ft). Go to Step 7.
5. Pull on the other end of the rubber fuel vapor hose to see if it is connected to the plastic vapor tube (9G297) from the carbon canister (Figure 2).
a. If connected, install the wheel and tire assembly and tighten the wheel lug nuts to 115-142 N-m (85-105 lb.ft.). Go to Step 7.
b. If not connected, remove the extra rubber vapor hose (N809633) from the steel vapor tube (9A228) connected to the fuel tank and go to Step 6 (Figure 2).
6. Locate the rubber vapor hose (9C015) connected to the plastic fuel vapor tube from the canister and connect the hose to the steel vapor tube (9A228) from the fuel tank (Figure 2). Install the wheel and tire assembly and tighten the wheel lug nuts to 115-142 N-m (85-105 lb.ft).
7. Prepare and install Authorized Modification Label FPS 8262. Insert your P & A code and the date. Insert the following on label; "Evaporative Emissions - Vapor Hose Inspected/Connected." Attach the label to a clean surface on the fan shroud. Place the clear overlay on the label.
8. Provide owners of California vehicles with "Emissions Recall-Proof of Correction" certificate.
