Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
The electric cooling fan system consists of a two speed fan on all 3.0L, 3.2L SHO and 3.8L engines with automatic transaxles or a single speed fan on 3.0L SHO engines with a manual transaxle and 2.3L engines. The electric cooling fan motor is mounted within a shroud behind the radiator assembly. The Constant Control Module (CCRM) (Integrated Relay Control Module IRCM) actuates the fan motor when the engine coolant reaches a specified temperature, when the engine reaches a specified speed, or when the air conditioning clutch is activated, if equipped. The Constant Control Module (CCRM) (Integrated Relay Control Module IRCM) interfaces with the PCM (EEC-IV) system to provide control for the cooling fan, air conditioning clutch and the fuel pump. The IRCM also contains the EEC power relay which provides vehicle battery power (VPWR) to the EEC-IV processor.
