1993 Taurus and Sable ABS Brake Controller

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. INSPECTION

(The ABS Brake Controller is located in the engine compartment on the front right hand side next to the washer bottle)

a. Disconnect negative battery cable.

b. Reposition washer bottle reservoir away from ABS module bracket.

c. Inspect the ABS module's label:

If the label is blue (located on the lower side of the module facing the center of the engine), no action is required:

1. Reinstall washer bottle reservoir.

2. Connect battery ground cable and release vehicle.

If the ABS module's label is white (located on the lower side of the module facing away from the engine), the module will be replaced.

2. ABS MODULE REMOVAL

a. Carefully disconnect 55-pin connector from ABS module:

Unlock connector by pulling up lever completely.

b. Remove the ABS Module/mounting bracket from the vehicle.

c. Remove the three screws attaching ABS module to mounting bracket and remove ABS module.

3. ABS MODULE INSTALLATION

a. Align ABS module with bracket so that lever is facing up and the side with two mounting holes, is flat against bracket at the top.

NOTE:
If all three mounting holes in the ABS module do not line up with holes in mounting bracket, the ABS module is incorrectly aligned with bracket.

b. Install three retaining screws and tighten to 1.7 - 2.3 N-m (15- 20 lb.in).

c. Install the module/mounting bracket.

d. Carefully connect 55-pin connector by installing bottom part of connector into slots in ABS module and pushing top portion of connector into ABS module. Then, pull locking lever completely down to ensure proper installation.

e. Install washer bottle.

f. Connect negative battery cable.
