Causes of Overheating
NOTE: Overheating and Cooling system related problems can be the result either mechanical, electrical, or computer related failures. In order to properly diagnose the problem all related systems should be checked prior to reaching a conclusion.Perform visual inspection prior to performing any diagnosis and testing procedures.
1. Check coolant level and condition.
2. Check condition of radiator, thermostat and hoses.
3. Check for fan blade interference.
4. Check for proper mounting of fan motor.
5. Check for proper fan blade attachment to motor.
6. Check for blown fuses.
7. Check wiring harnesses for damaged wires and poor or corroded connectors.
8. Ensure battery is fully charged.
Since the electric cooling fan is computer controlled, if no visual or mechanical problems can be found, check the computer system for stored trouble codes, go to Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection.
