EGR Valve: Service and Repair


WARNING: EGR components transport hot exhaust gases. Contact with hot EGR components may cause severe burns. Wear protective gloves or allow the vehicle sufficient time to cool.

EGR Valve Replacement:






1. Disconnect the EGR supply tube at the EGR valve.
2. Disconnect the EGR Vacuum Regulator hose from the EGR valve.
3. Remove the EGR valve retaining bolts and then the valve.
4. Clean all mating surfaces being careful not to get foreign material in the intake manifold.

NOTE: Lightly oil all bolts and threads prior to installation.

5. Connect the EGR supply tube to the EGR valve and hand tighten the nut.
6. Using a new gasket, install the EGR valve to the intake manifold. Torque the bolts to 15-22 lb. ft. (20-30 N-m).
7. Torque the EGR supply tube to 25-47 lb. ft. (35-65 N-m).
8. Connect the vacuum line to the EGR valve.
9. START and idle the engine, while inspecting for exhaust and/or vacuum leaks.
