Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

1. Relieve fuel system pressure.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain engine cooling system into suitable container.
3. Remove throttle body, then disconnect fuel lines.
4. Mark and disconnect vacuum lines and sensor connections, then remove fuel injector wiring harness.
5. Remove ignition coil and bracket and set aside.
6. Remove valve covers.
7. Loosen cylinder No. 3 rocker arms enough so rocker arms may be turned, then remove cylinder No. 3 push rods.
8. Disconnect upper radiator hose, then the heater hose from water outlet.
9. Mark distributor rotor and body with reference marks, then remove distributor assembly.
10. Remove intake manifold attaching bolts, then using a suitable pry bar if necessary to break the adhesion of sealers, remove the intake manifold.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply a 1/4 inch drop of a suitable sealer to the junction of cylinder block to cylinder head at each corner.

c. Torque intake manifold bolts in sequence shown in two steps: first to 15-22 ft lb, then to 20-24 ft lb.
