Windows: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTIONA permanent magnet (PM) motor operates each of the Power Windows. Each motor raises or lowers the glass when voltage is supplied to it. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage.
OPERATION
Master Window Control Switch
With the Ignition Switch in "ACC" or "RUN", battery voltage is applied to the Master Window Control Switch through Circuit Breaker 12 and the 193 (Y/LG) wires.
When any of the "UP" switches in the Master Window Control Switch not associated with One Touch Down are operated. battery voltage is applied to the Window Motor. The Window Motor is grounded through the "DN" contact in the Master Window Control Switch. The Motor runs to drive the window up. When any of the "DN" Switches in the Master Window Control Switch are operated. battery voltage is applied to the Window Motor in the opposite direction.
The Window Motor is grounded through the "UP" contact in the Master Window Control Switch, and the Motor runs to drive the window down.
One Touch Window Down Operation
The One Touch Window Down function is a convenience feature that allows the left front window to be fully opened when the Left Front Window "DN" Switch is operated for less than 0.4 seconds and then released. Actuating the LH Front Window "DN" Switch for more than 0.4 seconds provides conventional power window operation.
When the Ignition Switch is in "ACC" or "RUN", the One Touch Down Window Module receives power. When the Left Front Window "DN" Switch is operated, battery voltage is applied to the One Touch Window Down Module at terminal 2; ground is applied to terminal 4. The Module then turns on its output at terminal 1, providing battery voltage to the Left Front Window Motor. The Motor is grounded through the Left Front Window "UP" contact in the Master Window Control Switch. If the "DN" switch was actuated for less than 0.4 seconds, the window will open completely.
When the Left Front Window "UP" Switch is operated, voltage is applied to the One Touch Window Down Module at terminal 4; ground is applied to terminal 2. The Module then turns on its output at terminal 1, providing ground to the Left Front Window Motor. Voltage is applied to the motor through the LH Front Window "DN" contact in the Master Window Control Switch, and the motor runs to drive the window up.
Individual Window Control Switch Operation
The Right Front, Left Rear and Right Rear Window Control Switches operate only their corresponding window motors. These switches do not have the "One Touch" feature and operate only in the conventional manner.
Power and ground are provided to these switches through the Master Window Control Switch. These switches can be disabled by actuating the Window Lockout Switch in the Master Window Control Switch, removing the voltage feed to the individual switches.
