Inspection and Verification

1. Verify the vehicle owner's original concern by operating the gearshift linkage and brake shift interlock to duplicate the condition.

2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:

Mechanical
- Damaged or misadjusted selector lever cable.
- Damaged ignition key cylinder.

Electrical
- Open (blown) fuse(s)
- Damaged brake shift interlock actuator.
- Damaged wiring harness.
- Loose or corroded connections.

3. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptoms and go to the Symptom Chart.Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
