Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair




NOTE: Neutral safety switch functions are incorporated into the transaxle Manual Lever Position (MLP) Sensor. The following procedure covers Manual Lever Position (MLP) Sensor replacement.

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Position transmission selector lever in NEUTRAL.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Disconnect electrical harness connector from switch.

Manual Lever Position (MLP) Sensor:






5. Using 8mm socket, remove two bolts retaining manual lever position (MLP) sensor to case. Remove MLP sensor from manual shaft.

INSTALLATION

1. Ensure vehicle shift lever is in neutral position.
2. Install MLP sensor on manual lever and loosely install bolts.






Note: PARK is the last detent when the manual lever is full forward. Return two detents toward output shaft for NEUTRAL.

3. Install MLP sensor adjustment tool. Insert Gear Position Sensor Adjuster T91P-70010-A into slots. Align all three slots on MLP sensor with three tabs on tool.






4. Tighten MLP sensor bolts to 9-11 Nm (80-100 lb.in).
