Rear Lap/Shoulder Safety Belt

The rear seat outboard lap/shoulder safety belt extends from a retractor located on vehicle structure underneath the package tray trim panel up to a D-ring located on the C-pillar. The belt is angled then extends from the D-ring above and behind the occupants shoulder, directing the webbing at the proper downward angle over the occupants shoulder and chest to the lap belt buckle. The belt has a slip tongue on it that latches to the lap belt buckle and continues through the slip tongue outboard to the floorpan.

The lap/shoulder safety belt retractor is designed to let the webbing freely move in or out at all times, except during hard braking, cornering or impacts of 8 km/h (5 mph), when it is automatically locked by a mechanically actuated inertia sensor.

The inboard safety belt with the buckle passes through the seat on bench and split bench seat installations. Attaching the tongue and buckle secures the occupant with both lower and upper restraints. This attachment of the tongue and buckle can be accomplished by a single continuous movement.

The lap/shoulder safety belts are factory installed in their proper locations. If the lap/shoulder safety belts are removed for any reason, they should be installed properly. Tighten the retaining bolts to 30-40 Nm (22-29 ft lbs).
