EGR Valve: Service and Repair

WARNING: EGR components transport hot exhaust gases. Contact with hot EGR components may cause severe burns. Wear protective gloves or allow the vehicle sufficient time to cool.

EGR System Components:






REMOVAL

1. Raise vehicle.
2. Disconnect EGR valve exhaust tube from tube connector at exhaust manifold.
NOTE: To avoid damaging the tube hold connector with a wrench while disconnecting.
3. Disconnect vacuum hoses from the EGR valve exhaust tube and EGR valve.
4. Remove mounting bolts from EGR valve and remove EGR valve and exhaust tube as an assembly. Discard the EGR valve gasket.


INSTALLATION

1. If previously separated, connect the EGR exhaust tube to EGR valve. Finger tighten the EGR nut.
2. Install EGR valve with a new gasket. Install EGR valve mounting bolts.
- Torque to 15-22 lb. ft. (20-30 N-m).
3. Install EGR valve tube into connector on exhaust manifold.
- Torque line nut to 26-33 lb. ft. (35-45 N-m).
4. Tighten EGR exhaust tube nut at EGR valve.
- Torque to 15-22 lb. ft. (20-30 N-m).
5. Install EGR valve vacuum hoses.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. START engine and check for exhaust leaks.
