Transmission Range (TR) Sensor Inspection/ReplacementAffected Vehicles
1993 Model Town Car built from August 24, 1992 through March 13, 1993, 1993 Model Mark VIII built from October 5, 1992 through March 13, 1993, 1993 Model Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis built from August 24, 1992 through March 6, 1993.

Inspection and Removal
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Inspect date code on Transmission Range (TR) Sensor. See Figure 1.
^ If date code is 2H11 through 2L17, proceed with step 3 and remove and replace the TRS.
^ If it is not between these two built dates, return the vehicle to the owner.
3. Lower vehicle. Connect Rotunda Memory Saver 014-R1064 or equivalent to retain memory in radio settings, clock, engine learn strategies, etc..
4. Disconnect battery negative cable.
5. Move gearshift lever to NEUTRAL position.
6. Raise vehicle on hoist.
7. Disconnect TR sensor electrical connector.
8. Remove two (2) TR sensor retaining bolts and remove sensor from transmission manual control lever.
Installation
1. Install TR sensor onto manual control lever and loosely install retaining bolts.
2. Align TR sensor slots using Transmission Range (TR) Sensor Alignment Tool T93P-70010-A.
3. Tighten retaining bolts to 9-12 N-m (7-9 ft-lb) then remove alignment tool. Connect electrical connector to TR sensor.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Connect battery negative cable and remove Memory Saver.
6. Check for proper operation with parking brake engaged. The engine should only start to PARK or NEUTRAL position.
