ISSUE:
Customer concerns with torque converter clutch engagement and disengagement feel may be associated with one or more of the following symptoms.
^ Occasional harsh 3-4 shifts
^ Slight increase in engine RPM during torque converter clutch disengagement
^ Shift "busyness" during torque converter clutch engagement/disengagement after 2-3 or 3-4 shifts
^ Early torque converter clutch engagements at "Light Throttle" produces lugging and shift busyness
^ Shift "busyness" on grades with speed control "ON"
^ Rough or harsh coasting 4-3 downshift feel.
These concerns are caused by the powertrain control module programming.
ACTION:
Replace production powertrain control module with service powertrain control module. The new calibration will be 3-18F-R11.
The "R11" calibrations will influence shift speeds. To assist in diagnostics, refer to the Shift Speed Chart shown in Figure 1.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
NOTE:
BE SURE TO INDICATE THE NEW CALIBRATION NUMBER ON THE MODIFICATION DECAL.
