Clutch
Compressor Circuit DiagnosisNOTE: The ambient temperature must also be above approximately 50°F for A/C compressor operation.
Operation of the A/C compressor clutch is dependent on signals from the engine computer. The system is programmed to interrupt A/C compressor operation when certain conditions exist. The A/C compressor clutch can be shut oft (or kept oft) for several seconds at engine start-up, at high engine speeds, during acceleration, when the engine coolant temperature exceeds a predetermined temperature and during low engine idle conditions (approximately 200 rpm below low idle specifications). If A/C compressor operation can be restored with a jumper wire across the contact terminals of the cut-out relay harness connector, the powertrain control module (PCM) 12A650 is interrupting compressor operation. Refer to the Powertrain Control / Emissions Diagnosis Manual1 for proper servicing.
