Seat Belt Reminder Buzzer: Description and Operation

SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR
If the shoulder belt should stall before reaching the B-pillar locked position, the safety belt warning indicator lamp will come on (after a delay of eight seconds) and the warning chime will sound (after a delay of approximately 15 seconds) the lamp and chime will stay on until the shoulder belt is locked at the B-pillar.

If both the indicator lamp and chime remain on, check to ensure both shoulder belts are latched to the emergency release buckle. If they are latched, the shoulder belt has not reached its locked position at the B-pillar, perform Manual Override System procedures before driving the vehicle.

The shoulder belt will automatically adjust itself to allow for comfort and freedom of movement by the occupant. It will lock tight only on extremely hard braking, hard cornering or impacts of approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) or more.

When the ignition is in any position and the door is opened, the shoulder belt will move forward to the A-pillar. This will allow ample room to enter and exit the vehicle.

WARNING: USE THE SHOULDER BELT ON THE OUTSIDE SHOULDER ONLY. NEVER WEAR THE SHOULDER BELT UNDER THE ARM. NEVER SWING IT AROUND YOUR NECK OVER THE INSIDE SHOULDER. NEVER USE A SINGLE BELT FOR MORE THAN ONE PERSON. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PRECAUTIONS COULD INCREASE THE CHANCE AND/OR SEVERITY OF INJURY IN A COLLISION.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE the belt as an assist handle when entering or exiting the vehicle. The door should not be opened while the vehicle is in motion.

SAFETY BELT REMINDER INDICATOR FUNCTION

NOTE: The operation of the safety belt reminder chime function is not affected by this change in operation of the safety belt reminder indicator.

If driver's safety belt is fastened with ignition key turned to ON, the safety belt indicator in the instrument cluster will not illuminate.

If driver's safety belt is not fastened with ignition key turned to ON, the safety belt indicator will illuminate steadily for approximately 60 seconds as a reminder to fasten the safety belt. If the driver fastens the safety belt while indicator is illuminated, the indicator will turn off immediately.

SAFETY BELT WARNING CHIME CIRCUITRY
When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or START position, power is supplied to the warning chime module. The thermal timer supplies power to one side of the warning indicator (from four to eight seconds) through the passive restraint module. Power is also supplied to one side of the warning indicator when either of the passive belt reel switches is open (shoulder belt disconnected), or whenever either shoulder belt transport is not properly located at the B-pillar after the lap belt warning indication period is over. The opposite side of the lamp goes directly to ground. All modes of operation use a constant (non-flashing) signal for the indicator.
