Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Release pressure from fuel system by cranking the engine for a minimum of 15 seconds with the electrical connector at the inertia fuel shutoff switch disconnected, or by using a fuel pressure gauge.
2. Remove fuel cap.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable and secure it out of the way.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.
4. Remove vacuum line at pressure regulator.
5. Remove three retaining screws from regulator housing and discard.
6. Remove pressure regulator assembly, gasket and O-ring.
7. Be careful not to damage fuel pressure regulator or fuel supply line gasket surfaces.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate new fuel pressure regulator O-ring with engine oil.
NOTE: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.
2. Ensure gasket surfaces of fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail assembly are clean.
3. Install new O-ring and new gasket on regulator.
4. Using new retaining screws install fuel pressure regulator on fuel rail assembly. Tighten to 3.0-4.5 Nm (27-40 lb in).
5. Install vacuum line to regulator.
6. Connect battery ground cable.
7. Turn ignition switch ON/OFF several times without starting engine to check for fuel leaks.
