Air Diverter Valve: Description and Operation

Two general types of Air Injection Bypass (AIRB) valves, normally closed and normally open, are used for air management within the AIR system. Both types perform the same functions and serve the same purpose of air management. The AIRB valve is located in the air flow hose routing between the air pump and the air check valves.

NORMALLY CLOSED AIRB VALVE

Air Bypass Valves (Normally Closed):

A normally CLOSED AIRB valve supplies air to the exhaust system with medium and high vacuum signals applied during normal operating temperature. With no or low vacuum applied, pumped air is diverted to the atmosphere through the remote dump port.

NORMALLY OPEN AIRB VALVE

Normally OPEN Air Injection Bypass (AIRB) Valve:

A normally OPEN AIRB valve directs pumped air into the exhaust system when no vacuum is being applied to the vacuum chamber. With a minimum vacuum signal of 10" being applied to the signal port, pumped air is dumped to the atmosphere.
