Shift Cable: Adjustments
Fig. 3 Shift Control Cable Adjustment:
1. Remove selector trim panel, then disconnect electrical connector from programmed ride control switch.
2. Remove four screws attaching selector bezel assembly, then lift bezel assembly to gain access to shift cable adjuster.
3. Loosen nuts A and B. Loosen bolt C, Fig. 3.
4. Shift selector lever to P range and shift transmission to P range by moving manual shaft of transaxle clockwise.
5. Torque bolt C to 67-96 inch lbs.
6. Tighten nut A until nut touches trunnion.
7. Torque nut B to 67-96 inch lbs. Ensure nut B seats against spacer and not against spring.
8. Install selector bezel. Ensure there is a click in each range position.
9. Ensure linkage adjustment has not affected operation of neutral safety switch as follows:
a. Apply service and parking brakes, then try to start engine in each selector position.
b. Engine must crank only in N and P positions. If engine cranks in any other gear lever position, check linkage adjustment and neutral safety switch operation.
10. Connect the programmed ride control switch electrical connector, then install selector trim panel.
