Forward Clutch
DISASSEMBLEExploded View Of Clutch Assembly:
1. Refer to the Exploded View Of Clutch Assembly image for disassembling procedure.
ASSEMBLE
1. Install dished plate with beveled side facing upward.
Front Clutch Pack Installtion:
2. Install forward clutch pack.
3. Install retaining plate and snap ring.
4. Measure clearance of snap ring and retaining plate. Clearance should be 0.039-0.047 inch. If clearance is not as specified, proceed as follows:
Forward Clutch Pressure Plate Thickness Chart, (1992):
a. On 1992 models, select retaining plate which will bring clearance to specification.
Forward Clutch Snap Ring Thickness Chart, (1993-1996):
b. On 1993-96 models, select snap ring which will bring clearance to specification.
5. On all models check for clutch operation as follows:
a. Place clutch assembly onto oil pump.
Applying Compressed Air Through Fluid Passages:
b. Apply 57 psi or less of compressed air through fluid passages.
CAUTION: Do not apply compressed air for more than three seconds.
c. Fill clutch drum with transaxle fluid. Ensure clutch piston is fully submerged.
d. Ensure no air bubbles come from between piston and drum seal when applying compressed air.
e. Lubricate bearings, then install them on both sides of reverse and forward drum.
