Standby Power Supply: Service and Repair

The electrical circuit necessary for system deployment is powered directly from battery and back-up power supply. To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the airbag system must be deactivated prior to repairing or replacing any system components.

Fasteners used on airbag components must be replaced after removal. The fasteners are coated with an epoxy adhesive making them non-reusable.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and allow backup power supply to discharge. Backup power supply will discharge in 15 minutes if battery ground cable is disconnected, or one minute if battery positive cable is disconnected.
2. Open glove box past stops, press in sides.
3. Remove power supply (blue box, one connector) retaining screws.
4. Disconnect connector from power supply unit.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Rearm airbag system. Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming
b. Verify airbag indicator lamp.
