Cylinder Identification Sensor: Description and Operation

Cylinder Identification (CID) Sensor:

PURPOSE
The Cylinder Identification (CID) sensor detects cylinder #1 Top Dead Center (TDC) compression stroke. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses this signal to calculate fuel injection.

OPERATION
The PCM receives an input signal when the reluctor mounted on the distributor shaft rotates past a fixed magnetic pickup.
