System Inspection

1. Visually inspect the turbocharger system:
^ Condition of air cleaner element
^ Air duct for damage and looseness
^ Vacuum hose damage, pinching, kinking, poor connections
^ Wastegate, actuator, and linkage for damage or binding
^ Oil leakage from turbocharger
^ Unusual noise with engine operating
^ Damaged electrical connections or insulation
^ Damaged volume air flow meter

2. Exercise wiring and connectors for the knock control module, PCM, and other electronic components to detect obvious problems due to looseness, corrosion, or other damage.
3. Check air and vacuum lines and connections for looseness, pinching, kinking, incorrect routing, or other obvious causes for malfunction.
4. If a component is suspected as the obvious cause for the malfunction, correct the defect before proceeding.
5. For noise diagnosis, go to Pinpoint Test PFO1.PFO1 - Turbo Lube System
6. If all checks are okay, proceed to Pinpoint Tests.
