Steering Gear: Adjustments

RACK PRELOAD/SUPPORT YOKE


1. Loosen locknut.
2. Install yoke adjustment tool No. T90P-3504-JH or equivalent, torque yoke plug to 8.7 inch lbs, then loosen bolt 10-40°.
3. Using pinion shaft tool No. T86P-3504-K or equivalent, measure pinion torque, 9-12 inch lbs should be indicated at neutral position ±90°, 14.7 inch lbs or less should be indicated in any other position.
4. If pinion torque is not as specified, turn adjusting bolt to correct, then tighten adjusting bolt locknut.
