Idle Speed: Adjustments

NOTE: Before adjusting idle speed, make sure ignition timing is correct and all electrical accessories are OFF when making actual adjustments.

1. Apply parking brake and make sure vehicle is in PARK (A/T), or NEUTRAL (M/T).
2. START and idle engine until operating temperature is reached.
3. Turn engine OFF and disable radiator cooling fan.
4. Using a jumper wire, connect diagnosis connector GROUND and TEN terminals.

5. Connect tachometer positive lead to diagnosis connector IG terminal and negative lead to negative battery post.

6. Verify idle speed is within range:

Manual Transaxle: 750 ± 50 rpm
Automatic Transaxle: 750 ± 50 rpm
Canadian Models: 800 ± 50 rpm

NOTE: When parking brake is not applied, idle speed for automatic transaxles will be slightly higher.

7. If idle speed is not within specification, adjust by turning idle speed adjusting screw until specified range is obtained.

8. After adjustment, remove jumper wire and tachometer. Reconnect cooling fan.
